On Saturday night the Dogs fly up to Brisbane to take on the Lions in what could be the match of the round. Last week The Dogs lost the un-losable against West Coast at Etihad, they were embarrased and if they’re not fired up for this game then they are completely gone come finals time. They’ve looked very shaky in recent weeks and have a dreadful run home – this is a must win for them.

There’s not a lot of doubt about who’ll win this one. A top 4 team playing a bottom 4 team who hasn’t won interstate in over 2 seasons. The good thing about this game is that the Eagles have been given a massive line and after seeing the Dockers make the line with ease against the Bulldogs last week it appears to be a good bet once again.

I think the $1.04 odds for the Bulldogs head to head against the Dockers says it all about this game. No stand out value in this game at all to be honest. To sum this game up…one side is hoping to secure a spot on the top 4 while the other is hoping win no more than 4 games. Last week the Dockers fell over the line in the Derby against West Coast. Compared to typical derby’s between these two clubs it was a major disappointment which has resulted in some pretty damning claims of tanking.

Matt Maguire can’t get a break. he’s been waiting for a spot to open in the Saints defence for most of the season now and just when it does he’s not selected. Unfortunately for him this week Dawson was suspended but Max Hudghton will come back in to the team. This will be an interesting game, back in round 6 these teams met. The Saints led all day but a 28 point loss is not the kind of loss that will hurt their confidence going in to this game. They know they can match it with the best. Earlier this year the Dogs went down by just 2 points to Geelong. Brad Johnson could have won the game with a kick after the siren but failed to convert.

If you love football make sure you’re in front of a tv on Friday night because we’re going to see an exciting shootout between a top 4 contender in the West Bulldogs and a young and exciting Essendon team playing for a spot in the top 8. Two teams that love to run through the centre of the ground and move the ball quickly. In the past 5 games total match points between these two teams is an average of 236 and with Essendon playing good football we’re almost certain to see another high scoring shootout.

Both teams will come in to this game with some confidence. The Western Bulldogs absolutely punished Hawthorn at the same venue last Saturday night. Collingwood got some payback when they defeated old rivals Essendon last Friday at the MCG. Amazingly we’re at round 15 and these two teams still have to face each other twice in the home and away season, twice in two months.

Three weeks ago on Twitter I was asked to do the ladder predictor, people thought I was joking when saw that I didn’t have Hawthorn in the top 8 come round 22. Three weeks on and now people have come to terms with the reality that its going to be tough for Hawthorn to make the finals. Football commentators are saying the Hawks need to beat the in-form Bulldogs to keep there season alive. I don’t buy into that, win lose or draw as long as its mathematically possible they’ll back themselves.
