Collingwood continue to impress and loom as a serious threat to knock off the Saints should they make the Grand Final this year. We know the Pies love to travel and they showed it against the Crows in Adelaide last week. To be fair it wasn’t a great game but they got the job done against the odds. Cameron Wood played his best game for the Pies last week and will want to produce similar form to keep his spot in the side with Josh Fraser set to comeback from injury in the coming weeks.

It almost appears as if Hawthorn have just about put the cue in the rack for season 2009. Earlier this week it was announced that key forward Jarryd Roughead would miss the remainder of the season after choosing to have knee surgery. Mathematically they’re still a chance to make the finals, but would need to win every game from here on in.

The one game on Sunday that can shape the top 8, If Essendon lose to the Lions on Saturday night and Port are to win against the Dockers it would just about cement there spot in the top 8. Despite the Dockers having won just 4 games this season it’s no easy task to take on the Dockers at Subiaco. Port Adelaide do however have an amazing record against the Dockers at the ground, something I’m sure will give them confidence going into the match.

Two teams out of finals contentions but both still giving it their all. Richmond have won there last two under coach Jade Rawlings and have looked impressive. Last week Sydney went down to the yet to be defeated Saints by the smallest of margins which ultimately ruled them out of the race for a finals spot.

Now that all the decent games are over and done with this weekend its time to move onto Sunday. Three relatively boring games and it doesn’t come more boring than this one. This game is so uninteresting they’ll struggle to get 20,000 people at Etihad Stadium. Melbourne have a chance to prove that they’re not tanking, but will they? While North Melbourne have a chance to register Darren Crockers first win as senior coach.

Game of the round. Toughest game to pick this week, both teams in form and playing for a top 4 spot. With news today that Nathan Bock will be a late withdrawal from the Adelaide side it only makes it harder to tip the Crows despite playing at AAMI Stadium. Also adding to that the Pies have a good record interstate and have the best record of any interstate side playing at AAMI Stadium.
Preview: Essendon vs Brisbane Lions

Two weeks ago this game would have been incredibly hard to pick, Essendon were flying and looked likely to grab a spot in the finals however recent losses to Richmond and West coast have just about ruled that out. Another problem they’re facing is a growing injury list.Once again they will be without skipper Matthew Lloyd and joining him this week is Andrew Lovett (leg), Scott Lucas (knee) and Andrew Welsh (leg). With no Lucas or Lloyd in the forward line they may struggle.

It’s been an eventful week for bookmarkers and punters alike. Earlier in the week you could get as muich as $3.50 for the Hawks to beat the undefeated Saints. However on Wednesday afternoon bookmakers suspended betting on the game after receiving some big bets on the Hawks from well informed punters. It was rumored that some big names would be out for the Saints and when the teams were announced on Thursday it was obvious why bookies suspended betting. More money came in for the Hawks, eventually pushing them into favouritism. Some bookies have them as low as $1.60; you can get $2.35 for St Kilda.
