Preview: Brisbane Lions vs Western Bulldogs

On Saturday night the Dogs fly up to Brisbane to take on the Lions in what could be the match of the round. Last week The Dogs lost the un-losable against West Coast at Etihad, they were embarrased and if they’re not fired up for this game then they are completely gone come finals time. They’ve looked very shaky in recent weeks and have a dreadful run home – this is a must win for them.

Brisbane were lucky to get 2 points last week when they drew against Essendon at the MCG. It’ll be interesting to see how the respond from the draw, you walk away from the game almost emotionless. They’ll want to win to keep their hopes of a top 4 finish alive. They’ve also been shaky in recent weeks and unfortunately for them they have a history of dropping off late in the season.

Both teams have fantastic records of kicking big scores at night. The forecast is perfect and this could allow for a shootout. The Lions have Brownshaw (Bradhsaw and Brown) in the forwardline which can cause problems however the Bulldogs would be somewhat confident of being able to control the pair.

The Bulldogs forwardline is a lot more unpredictable which could cause the Lions a few problems. The midfield battle will be fascinating.

The Verdict

Another tough game to pick. I want to go the Lions because its at the Gabba but the Dogs will be hungry and cant afford to lose this and letting the wheels completely fall off. They lose this and it could wipe any confidence they had away.

I’m going to go with the Dogs because they’re more unpredictable and they’ll be confident of stopping Bradshaw and Brown.

SportsAlive were offering odds of $13 for the Dogs to be the highest scoring team this round, $9 for the Lions. With both teams being high scoring I put half a unit on both.

Final Verdict
Western Bulldogs by 16
